1. Information We Collect
Depending on how you use BabyLog, we may collect or process:
- Account information, such as your email address, display name, authentication identifiers, and login session data.
- Baby profile information that you enter, such as a baby's name, date of birth, avatar, and profile details.
- Baby care activity logs, such as feeding, diaper, sleep, wake-up, nursing-session, note, timestamp, quantity, and related details.
- Family and caregiver collaboration information, such as invite codes, invite email addresses, and family-member roles.
- Voice-logging information, including audio recordings, transcripts, structured activity records, and processing metadata.
- Subscription and entitlement information, such as whether your account has access to paid features and the relevant purchase identifiers supplied by the billing provider.
- Information you provide when you contact us for support or feedback.
We collect information directly from you when you create an account, enter a baby profile or care activity, invite a caregiver, contact support, or make a purchase. With your device permission, we collect a voice recording only after you start a voice log. We also receive authentication, subscription, and transaction-status information from the service providers you choose to use. BabyLog does not track users across apps or websites owned by other companies and does not use collected data for advertising.
2. How We Use Information
We use information to:
- Provide, maintain, and improve BabyLog.
- Create, save, and sync baby care logs across the authorized members of a family.
- Authenticate users, maintain sessions, and protect accounts.
- Process voice recordings into transcripts and structured activity records.
- Provide subscription features, restore purchases, and manage paid access.
- Calculate timelines, summaries, reminders, and activity insights inside the app.
- Send notifications when you enable them and configure a reminder.
- Respond to support requests, prevent misuse, and comply with legal obligations.
3. Voice Recordings and AI Processing
Voice logging is optional. Before BabyLog sends personal data to an AI provider, the app displays a separate notice and asks for your permission. If you choose Allow, BabyLog sends the following data through our Supabase-hosted backend to OpenAI, LLC: your voice recording; the resulting transcript, which may contain a baby name and any care details you speak; and the date, time, and time zone needed to interpret the log. BabyLog does not send your account email address or BabyLog baby-profile identifier to OpenAI for this processing.
OpenAI processes the recording to create a transcript and processes the transcript to create structured baby-care activity suggestions. OpenAI processes this data on our behalf through its API. OpenAI states that API inputs and outputs are not used to train its models by default. Its audio-transcription endpoint does not retain application state or abuse-monitoring content under its published API data controls; transcript content sent to the chat-completions endpoint may be retained in abuse-monitoring logs for up to 30 days unless a different approved data-retention control applies.
If you do not allow this sharing, nothing is sent to OpenAI and voice logging remains unavailable. You can withdraw permission at any time under Settings > AI Data Sharing. Withdrawal stops new recordings and transcripts from being sent to OpenAI; it does not delete data previously saved in BabyLog. You can delete saved voice notes in the app and can use the deletion controls described below.
Voice recordings uploaded to BabyLog's private storage are retained for up to 30 days. After that period, the audio is removed or made unavailable for playback. Transcripts, parsed activities, and other related records remain associated with your account until you delete them or delete the relevant baby profile or account. Recordings and temporary audio files may also remain locally on your device until you delete them or clear them through the app or your device's storage controls.
Voice transcription and AI-assisted parsing can be imperfect. Review and correct automatically created activity records before relying on them.
4. Third-Party Service Providers
We use service providers to operate BabyLog. These providers may process information only as needed to provide services to us, subject to their terms, privacy commitments, and our instructions. We confirm that service providers with whom we share user data are required to provide the same or equal protection described in this policy and required by applicable Apple platform rules. Providers used by the iOS app include:
- Supabase, Inc. for database hosting, authentication, private file storage, realtime synchronization, and serverless functions.
- OpenAI, LLC for optional voice transcription and AI-assisted parsing, only after your express permission as described above.
- RevenueCat and Apple App Store or Google Play billing systems for subscriptions and purchases.
- Expo and operating-system notification services when notifications are enabled.
- Apple and Google authentication services when you choose Sign in with Apple or Google.
5. Sharing Information
We may share information:
- With parents, guardians, or caregivers whom you invite or authorize in BabyLog. Authorized family members may be able to view the baby profile, activity logs, transcripts, and available voice-note playback for the shared baby.
- With service providers who help us operate BabyLog, as described above.
- When required by law, legal process, or to protect rights, safety, and security.
- In connection with a business transfer, such as a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets.
We do not sell your personal data or baby care logs, and we do not share them for cross-app tracking or advertising.
6. Children and Baby Information
BabyLog is intended for adults who are parents, guardians, or caregivers. Adults may enter information about a baby or child to track care activities. We do not knowingly allow children under 13 to create accounts or submit information directly. If you believe a child has provided personal information directly to BabyLog without appropriate involvement from a parent or guardian, contact us so we can review and take appropriate action.
7. Data Retention
We retain account information, baby profiles, activity logs, transcripts, and related records for as long as needed to provide BabyLog, maintain your account, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. Voice recordings stored by BabyLog are retained for up to 30 days as described in the voice-processing section. Local copies may remain on your device until you remove them.
8. Your Choices and Rights
You can update certain account and baby-profile information in the app. You can edit or delete activity records and delete voice notes where those controls are available. You can delete your BabyLog account from Settings by following the in-app confirmation steps. Account deletion permanently removes your account and removes your access to shared family data. Baby profiles and associated records owned by you may be deleted; when a baby is shared with other family members, the profile and related records may be preserved or transferred so the shared family service can continue. Some information may be retained where required by law or reasonably necessary for security, fraud prevention, dispute resolution, or enforcement of these Terms.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights to request access, correction, deletion, portability, or restriction or objection to certain processing. Contact us if you need help exercising a right.
9. Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
10. International Processing
Information may be processed in the United States or other locations where we or our service providers operate. By using BabyLog, you understand that information may be processed outside your country of residence.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the effective date above. If changes are material, we may provide additional notice in the app or by other reasonable means.
